Adopted in November 2020, the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe seeks to implement a regulatory framework that supports the pharmaceutical sector (manufacturers, parallel traders, wholesalers, pharmacy, and others) in building a stronger, a more robust and resilient supply chain to better fulfil the healthcare needs of European citizens. Based on four pillars, this strategy will strive to ensure the access to affordable medicines, support competitiveness and innovation, enhance crisis response and promote a high level of quality, efficiency, and safety standards.

These issues at stake are multifaceted and the strategy to address them will require a high-level of coordination and cooperation between all supply chain stakeholders and European and national authorities. Furthermore, the ongoing COVID19 pandemic has highlighted the need of a crisis-resistant system ensuring the availability of medicines and medical products under all circumstances.

In view of the first exchange on the Pharmaceutical Strategy between the European Commission and the European Parliament and with the first ITRE Opinion Draft just being published, this timely and important digital roundtable will bring together policymakers and experts, representing various SMEs of the healthcare supply chain, to highlight the main objectives and targets of the strategy from all point of views.
